I’m the first to argue at the slightest sign of generalization, but in regards to the work of filmer/director Kurt Filiponne and producer Chris Ritchie, these Canadian stereotypes hit pretty accurately. After-all, they celebrate the satire of late 70s SCTV sketch “The Great White North” hosted by characters Bob (Rick Moranis) and Doug (Dave Thomas) McKenzie. In particular, Filiponne and Ritchie’s first full-length skateboard film is named after Bob and Doug’s 1983 Strange Brew movie. And while Filipone and Ritchie may not be brothers by blood, they certainly share a vision of what’s important to them: home (Canada), hockey, skateboarding and, lastly, beer.
